QUEENS, N.Y. - Lime bikes are leaving the Rockaways.

The electric dock-free bikes launched there in the summer of 2018 as a pilot program.

Last summer, the number of Lime bikes in the Rockaways expanded from 400 to 600.

But Lime is now dropping electric bikes in favor of e-scooters, which are growing in popularity.

It's not clear yet if or when Lime may introduce e-scooters to the Rockaways.

A Lime spokesman says the company hopes to provide transportation options across New York in the near future.
