SAN ANTONIO — Selena fans rejoice! Texas-based convenience store Stripes is releasing a new limited-edition Selena commemorative cup.

  • Stripes releasing new limited-edition Selena cup
  • First one goes on sale February 23
  • Two other will be released at a later date

Based on overwhelming demand from customers and fans, Stripes decided to release three limited-edition, collectible cups featuring the Tejano superstar. The first design will be sold at participating stores in Texas and Louisiana while supplies last February 23 at 10 a.m.

Stripes partnered with the Quintanilla Family and the organizers of Fiesta de la Flor for the release. Stripes said Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, was the creative genius around the design of the cups and provided vision and leadership ensuring that every detail of the project would honor Selena’s legacy.

The first cup design, "Queen of Cumbia" features a retro pop art look with a black and white sketch of Selena. The cups hold either hot or cold beverages and are double wall-insulated, dishwasher safe and BPA free. Each cup is $3.99 plus tax and there is a two cup limit per customer. Customers can start lining up at 8 a.m.

Two more designs will be released at a later date.

Last year, fans quickly bought up the limited-edition cups within hours of them going on sale. Some of the cups sold on online resale sites for at least 10 times that amount.

The cups are designed as a promotion around the 2019 Fiesta de la Flor event in Corpus Christi, that will be held April 12 and 13.
