AUSTIN, Texas -- The year 2018 marked the first season in the NFL that any team had male cheerleaders.

  • Super Bowl LIII will have the first male cheerleaders
  • Both cheerleaders are for the Rams

Two of the three men who cheered for teams this season are with the Los Angeles Rams. That means Quinton Peron and Napolean Jinnies will be the first males cheerleaders ever at a Super Bowl.

The significance of this is not lost on a former competitive cheerleader in Austin.

“I think it’s important that people get to do what they truly love nowadays and not be judged for it,” said Jordan Reyna, a coach at Tumble Tech in Cedar Park.

Having male cheerleaders at the Super Bowl will provide a lot of exposure but Reyna added he’s already seen a big increase in males at the gym he works at over the past two years.
