AUSTIN, Texas — An exhibition at the Blanton Museum of Art showcases the worldwide relevance of African design.

  • Showcases impact of African art and design
  • 120 artists and designers
  • Show runs through January 6

Making Africa: A Continent of Contemporary Design features the work of over 120 artists and designers.

On Thursday the museum hosted a gallery talk with local artists Betelhem Makonnen and Tammie Rubin.

“This exhibition is really interesting since it is actually contemporary design from Africa,” said Rubin.

The show includes furniture, fashion, photography, architecture, and more.

“Africa is not a country or a thing. Africa is made up of multiplicities, a range of experiences and people,” said Makonnen.

Vitra Design Museum and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao organized the exhibition.

The show runs through January 6. Admission is free every third Thursday of the month.
