CHARLOTTE-- N.C. The Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority observed World AIDS Day, December 1, by hosting an information session and free testing day.

The sorority group provided information about using condoms and the medication PREP to prevent getting HIV. There was also free HIV testing from the C.W. Williams Community Health Center.

Sue Goodman of the C.W. Williams Community Health Center says an HIV diagnosis is no longer a death sentence, with medication that can make the virus virtually undetectable if caught early.

However, Goodman says the best way to prevent HIV from spreading is to take away the stigma of the disease.

"We need to try to make it normal to talk about. Make is so that people feel comfortable talking about it and feel comfortable getting information," Goodman said.
