RALEIGH, N.C. -- Many people around NC State have noted that a crane on Hillsborough Street since 2015 hasn't actually built anything...

But that crane will soon be gone.

The crane was originally intended to build apartments across from NC State, but due to legal issues the project never took off.

Then, in 2017, the company attempting the project went bankrupt and the crane fell into limbo.

Experts estimate that the cost to keep the crane there for the past four years has cost (someone) more than $500,000.

The crane will come down on the weekend of March 9. It will take two days and require Hillsborough Street, a major artery into downtown, to be closed off partially.

NC State will be on spring break when the crane is taken down.
