BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Brevard County cat is being credited with saving a man's life after waking up her owner in the middle of the night.

It was 4 a.m. last Saturday morning. Cheronda Scott's cat, Marisol, was wide awake, pawing at her, and trying to wake up her owner.

"I was petting her, trying to calm her down," Scott said. "And I heard moaning from the next room."

It was coming from the bedroom where her roommate, a 76-year-old man, sleeps.

Scott thought he was having a nightmare, so she went to sit with him and calm him down.

"When I walked in, he was blue, not responsive, and struggling to breathe," she said.

Scott quickly called 911, and paramedics rushed the man to a hospital. As it turned out, the man had a pulmonary embolism — a blood clot in an artery leading from the heart to the lungs.

Scott says she and Marisol normally sleep in on weekends.

"He was blue at 4 a.m., so there is no way he would have made it if (Marisol) didn't wake me up. It would have been bad,” she said.

Scott's roommate is still recovering at the hospital. He reportedly doesn't remember anything but is aware that the cat, who Scott adopted just three months ago, helped save his life.

"I don't like that I found him like that, but I'm glad that I did, and she woke me up," Scott said.

She said she hopes through seeing this, more people will considering adopting a cat, like her own hero.
