  • Deputies: 2 men had been arguing about music
  • Jairo Mardoqueo Rodas charged with 2nd-degree murder

Salvador Contrerras was found dead in his apartment on the farm off North U.S. Highway 27, according to deputies.

A witness said Contrerras called them and asked for help because his roommate, 23-year-old Jairo Mardoqueo Rodas, wanted to fight him.

Rodas, who had initially fled the scene, returned and told deputies he knew "what he did was wrong."

Rodas told deputies that he and Contrerras had been drinking and listening to music when they started arguing about the music. Rodas said Contrerras was insulting him, so he picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Contrerras in the neck, investigators say.

Barn managers told deputies that Rodas had been fired from his job at the farm two days ago.

Rodas was arrested and faces a charge of second-degree murder.
