ORLANDO, Fla. — General Mills is recalling a popular brand of flour because of potential salmonella contamination.

  • Single date lot of April 20, 2020
  • Samples indicated presence of salmonella
  • Not confirmed cases of illness

The recall affects 5-pound bags of Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour.

The flour has a "better if used by" date of April 20, 2020. That's the only date lot that is affected by the recall.

The package UPC code is 000-16000-19610-0.

General Mills said it's received no confirmed reports of illness, and the recall is being issued just in case.

Customers should check their flour, and if it is covered by the recall, call General Mills Consumer Relations at 1-800-230-8103.

Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says people should refrain from eating raw products made with flour in general. Salmonella in flour is only killed through baking, frying, sauteing, or boiling. Surfaces should be properly cleaned after being used for flour or dough.
