At the Salisbury National Cemetery Annex, hundreds of volunteers braved the rain and cold temperatures to place thousands of wreaths on graves.

Kathy Goodman's son served in the Army and is buried at the cemetery. She says it's heart-warming to see so many people coming together to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

"It warms my heart to see so many people who really still care for all the fallen," Goodman says.

Organizers say not every grave is getting a wreath.

There were around 3,500 wreaths sponsored for this year's event. Organizers say there are more than 7,000 veterans buried at the cemetery, and their goal is to one day ensure every grave has a wreath with the help of the public.

"Every year, I have people saying 'Why didn't I know about this? How come I didn't know this?' And I say well, we just don't have advertising money. We put all our money and all our efforts into getting the wreaths for the ceremony," said Ronnie Faggert, the location leader.

Faggert says the group will start planning for next year's event in January.
