LANCASTER, Calif. -- The Antelope Valley fairgrounds will see the best of the best this weekend.

Come this weekend, the stands at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds will be filled with excited fans who are wearing their cowboy boots and hats and cheering on one of the most exciting events of the year.

The rodeo is coming back to town.

“Come out and support this event. If you miss this event, you’re crazier than the cowboys that try to ride the bulls,” said Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Announcer Don Jesser.

In its seventh year, the RAM PRCA California Circuit Finals Rodeo is returning to the AV Fairgrounds Oct. 13 through Oct. 15. The event showcases the skills of the top twelve contestants in the state for seven different events, including bull riding, bareback riding and barrel racing.

“It’s the Top 12, so when you come here, you really see the best of the best,” said Showdown Rodeo President Johnny Zamrzla.

The festivities will begin Friday at 7:00 p.m., and attendees can expect a variety of rodeo events, including the Miss Rodeo California pageant.

“The girls will compete in a series of different events throughout the week. They’ll have a speech competition, three different interviews, a horsemanship competition, a lot of sponsor visits and bouncing from place to place,” said 2017 Miss Rodeo California Brittney Phillips.

Returning to the announcer booth is Jesser, who said the competition is tougher than ever.

“This weekend is one of the greatest rodeos in the state of California. It happens once a year, right here in the Antelope Valley, and the reason being is that we decided years and years ago in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, that we needed to have an event for the cowboys that work right here,” said Jesser.

Organizers say the weekend is fun for the entire family.

“It’s good clean fun and fits all ages. We have people from little kids to all the way up to their 90s that come out to watch it. It’s the best of the best,” said Zamrzla.
