If you love unique animals and prefer a pet that is a little different, why not consider an arachnid like a tarantula?
Most people fear being bitten by a tarantula but that is not their main form of self defense.
"There are two different types of tarantulas, old world tarantulas and new world tarantulas, said Dian Sleiertin, animal rescuer. "The new world tarantulas are found in north and south America. Those little hairy parts of her body are called urticating hairs and she uses them to brush them off into the face of a predator. It feels a lot like getting fiberglass into your skin or imagine it in your eyes or nose, and that's how she defends herself."
The scary looking spiders may seem unbreakable, but they are actually very delicate and can die from a fall or mistreatment. However, on the upside, a tarantula can eat just about anything.
"Throw in crickets or cockroaches you can buy online, and I know this will upset some people but small pinky mice, they will eat those, they will eat worm and any other small insects you can find, in fact they will even eat other spiders," said Sleiertin.
Remember, before you bring home any pet, do your own research and be sure you understand what you are getting into.
