ORLANDO, Fla. — Foundation Academy sophomore Alex Nichols has what is called "in-the-gym range."
He made 70 threes this season while shooting 42 percent from behind the arc.
Lions head coach Daymion Williams says Nichols makes his job easy.
“I remember when he was six-seven years old, he was already that good,” said Williams.
Nichols led Foundation Academy in points, rebounds, steals and assists. He also registered two triple doubles.
It’s not hard to see he loves the game, and he has the scar to prove it.
During an AAU tournament this past summer, Nichols collided with another player and later found out he broke his sternum.
“I was in the hospital for five days and I had to have surgery,” said Nichols. “I couldn’t move my upper body. They gave me a five-to-six-month recovery range. I came back in three because I think I wanted to play so bad.”
Nichols’ comeback season led to him winning the Class 2A District 11 Florida Athletic Coaches Association player of the year.
To celebrate his accomplishment, Nichols just went back to lab to work on his game.
