Nelson-Enrique Molina also faces a reckless driving charge in connection to the 2018 crash that killed 52-year-old Orlando Rivera, a former pastor at Northland Church in Longwood.
At about 3 a.m. May 28, investigators say Molina was driving a black Mercedes westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-4 when his vehicle hit a dark gray Mazda vehicle driven by Rivera.
"Based on roadway evidence, there was no indication that the Mercedes, driven by Nelson-Enrique Molina, took any attempt to brake or avoid the crash prior to impact," says an affidavit that was released Thursday.
Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene. Molina was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said they talked to Molina on June 1 at the hospital, where he said "he does not remember anything from before the crash and has no recollection of the crash itself," according to the affidavit. Investigators also said Molina's injuries were consistent with damage on his Mercedes.
Investigators say road cameras captured the Mercedes going westbound on West South Street and then turning left onto the I-4 eastbound exit ramp, then "passing two (2) large red and white "DO NOT ENTER" signs located on each side of the roadway" and also "two (2) red "WRONG WAY" signs located on each side of the roadway," the affidavit says.
