ORLANDO, Fla. — Construction is underway on a mile-plus long section of Orange Blossom Trail to make it safer for pedestrians walking north of Interstate 4.

What You Need To Know

  • Construction is underway to improve sidewalks along Orange Blossom Trail

  • The project is from Gore Street to near I-4

  • Some obsolete driveways, no longer in use, will be removed

  • Construction should wrap up this summer

Improvements to sidewalks are being made between Gore Street and I-4 as a part of a Florida Department of Transportation project.

“I think if they were to improve it, make it more comfortable and safer for pedestrians, I’m all for it,” said Glenn Harris, who owns BuyPotsNOW off Orange Blossom Trail.

Harris, however, is concerned about another part of the project, which could eliminate a driveway apron.

“I have a rolling gate and I want to do a drive-thru, and this will be an exit point, so I need the curb to stay low,” he explained.

FDOT is looking to remove driveways, many obsolete, like the one in front of the O’Reilly Auto Parts store.

The apron in front of Glenn’s business was targeted for removal, but FDOT decided to keep it after hearing the concerns.

The project also includes lighting improvements to increase visibility and reduce glare for drivers.

Construction will require lane closures, happening between 7:30 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Crews are expected to wrap up work this summer.
