WORHTINGTON, Ohio — A historic city in central Ohio is looking for voter support this week after being nominated for two USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
The city has nominations for "Best Historic Small Town" and "Best Small Town in the Midwest."
“We are honored to be nominated for these national recognitions,” said Kate LaLonde, Executive Director of the Worthington Historical Society. “Worthington is a special place where history meets community, and we are excited to share our story with a wider audience.”
Worthington was founded in 1803, the same year Ohio became a state, by a group of settlers from New England. Led by James Kilbourn, the founders formed the Scioto Company to purchase and develop land to the west of the Allegheny Mountains.
The city was named after Ohio Senator Thomas Worthington; it became an incorporated village by 1835.
Voting opens on Monday at noon and remains open until March 31. Winners will be announced April 9 at noon.
