COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Instructional Materials Review Committee voted to remove 10 books from all state public schools Thursday afternoon. The books were banned based on their content that describes sexual actions. Books with this content do not align with regulations set for schools, committee members say.
Here is a full list of the books.
- Collateral
- Empire of Storms
- Half of a Yellow Sun
- Hopeless
- Identical
- Kingdom of Ash
- Last Night at the Telegraph Club
- Living Dead Girl
- Lucky
- Tricks
People had the opportunity to defend each book for three minutes and explain why it should not be removed. The books will now move to the South Carolina Board of Education for a final vote. That vote will take place April 1.
This is the latest group of books voted to be removed from public schools because they contain what are described as explicit details.
