It’s been a far from ideal season for the Syracuse men’s basketball team. But this up and mostly down year isn’t over yet. The Orange did just enough to clinch a spot in the 15-team ACC tournament.

No. 14 seed Syracuse (13-18, 7-13 ACC) will take on No. 11 seed Florida State (17-14, 8-12 ACC) Tuesday night in the first round of the conference tournament.

“You got to wipe it clean, it’s 0-0,” said Eddie Lampkin Jr., a graduate center for the Orange. “Anybody can win and anybody can go home. So I feel like we make a run and we do what we got to do. We can do what people don’t think we can do.”

SU and the Seminoles have already met once this season. Back in January, Florida State won the lone meeting 90-74. Syracuse leads the all-time series 10-8.

“We’re just taking it a game at a time,” said Lucas Taylor, a senior guard. “There’s been a lot of legendary runs in college sports before, so there's no reason we shouldn't put all towards it now. We have a chance to make it to the tournament still.”

But a lot has changed for both of these two teams over the last two months. Florida State recently announced Luke Loucks will be its next head coach, replacing long time head coach Leonard Hamilton, who will step down after this season.

Meanwhile, the Orange are looking to build on that big regular season finale win over Virginia, where they shot nearly 60% from the field, and defended the three-point line tremendously.

“Not once did I think they packed it in,” said Adrian Autry, Syracuse’s head coach. “I know as a coaching staff we didn’t. Through everything, we’ve learned a lot this year.”

Syracuse and Florida State will tipoff at 7 p.m. Tuesday from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. The winner will face No. 6 seed SMU on Wednesday night.
