The District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against the man they believe vandalized monuments outside Russell’s Steaks, Chops & More on Transit Road.
There was graffiti and extensive damage done to Russell Salvatore’s Patriots and Heroes Park a little more than three weeks ago. Light fixtures, flags, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Battle of the Bulge and America the Land We Love displays were destroyed.
The case is in the hands of the Lancaster Police Department, who have yet to release the suspect’s name.
Salvatore says he doesn't have it in him to press charges, but would like to help the suspect in any way that he can.
"I find it hard to prosecute the kid ... but if there is anything I could do to help him — I feel sorry for the kid," Salvatore said. "I would forgive him. He's going to have to pay his penalty if he just listens to us. If I have to give him a job and then watch over him, I'll be there to take care of him."
The good news is that Salvatore says repairs to the part should be complete in a few months, just in time for a reopening on Flag Day, June 14.
