A man has been arrested and charged with setting multiple fires to items such as mattresses near trash bins at hotels and other businesses in Charlotte.

On Jan. 2, the Charlotte Fire Department was called to several fires on Little Rock Road that were "believed to have been intentionally set by one person," according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The police found one person was connected to these fires and others in the University City Division and the Airport Division. Authorities weren't able to find the suspect at the time.

Another fire in the parking lot of Country Inn & Suites on 2541 Little Rock Road at 6:02 a.m. Jan. 24 was reported by a bystander. The hotel's trash bin was set on fire, causing $1,000 in damage.

The Huntersville Police Department arrested Bobby Lee Davis, 40, that day on unrelated charges. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Feb. 25 that as a result of collaboration between the Huntersville police, Charlotte Fire Department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, Davis was identified and charges in the Charlotte fires.

Davis was being held at Mecklenburg County Jail, police said.
