MEET YOUR D.C. REPORTER

Taylor Popielarz is an Emmy-nominated reporter in the Spectrum News Washington, D.C. Bureau covering regional and national politics with a focus on Ohio. His reporting has taken him from Capitol Hill to the White House to more than a dozen states and Europe. His latest role has him focusing on the 2024 Presidential Election, former President Donald Trump's growing legal troubles, and top congressional races throughout the country.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Taylor graduated from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut with a B.A. in Journalism. He interned in New York City with the NBC News Investigative Unit, the ABC News assignment desk, and Fox 5's Good Day New York. After graduation, he worked as a reporter for ABC57 in South Bend, Indiana, where he specialized in political coverage, including Mayor Pete Buttigieg and his campaign for chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Governor Mike Pence's ascension to vice president, the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, and Donald Trump's inauguration.

In his first five years with Spectrum News, Taylor covered Ohio's congressional delegation and made 20 reporting trips to the Buckeye State, logging thousands of miles to better understand its role in national politics. He extensively covered the 2022 Ohio U.S. Senate race and was the only reporter to follow Senator Sherrod Brown on every leg of his five-state listening tour as he weighed running for president in 2019. In Washington, Taylor has covered Representative Jim Jordan's political rise, the January 6th Committee hearings, President Joe Biden’s inauguration, two presidential impeachments, the Jan. 6th Capitol attack, the George Floyd protests, the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, and more. He followed Biden to Belgium and Poland in March 2022 at the height of Russia’s war in Ukraine, has served as pool reporter for two of Vice President Kamala Harris’ trips to Ohio, covered Election Week 2020 from Biden’s campaign headquarters in Delaware, and reported from presidential primary debates in Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Taylor also tracks Ohio's 17 members of Congress daily.

Staying true to his Jersey roots, Taylor will never turn down pizza, bagels, or donuts.
