A 16-year-old boy has died from injuries he sustained in a stabbing late Sunday night, according to Syracuse police.
The 16-year-old, now identified by police as Shamek Bonner, was found on the 400 block of West Newell Street with several stab wounds to his chest, police said. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Monday morning.
The Onondaga County District Attorney's Office told Spectrum News 1 Monday evening that Richard Olschewske, 18, has been charged with manslaughter in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Olschewske is the brother of Bonner's girlfriend, the assistant DA said.
The investigation is active and ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Syracuse Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (315) 442-5222 or by using the anonymous tip411 service.
