Five people are dead after a one-car crash in Jefferson County.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened on U.S. Route 11 in the town of LeRay just after 3 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities said the vehicle was heading southbound when it went off the road and into a ditch. It hit several trees and a billboard and came to a stop in the woods.

Several hundred feet of tire marks can be seen on the grass before spot of the accident, showing just how far the car had been off the road.

"Speed is a factor,” said Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Detective Benjamin Timerman. “Although it is normal for marks, tire marks to go quite a ways back regardless of speed, but it is clear that at this time, speed is a factor in this accident."

Authorities identified three of the victims Wednesday as Eugene Coleman, 28, Julian White, 29, and Da'mon Scott, 21.

The other two victims were identified Thursday as Karime Y. Carr and Vincent G. Barrientos, both of El Paso, Texas.
