Crews were on the scene of a major fire in the heart of the village of Boonville, in Oneida County, on Wednesday morning.

The blaze has been burning since 10 p.m. Tuesday night on the 100 block of Main Street. Multiple agencies and around 100 firefighters were called to the scene.

Five different buildings have been affected by the blaze, including six businesses and 12 apartments.

Many of the buildings in the area are more than 100 years old, which made putting out the fire difficult.

"This is a very difficult time for the village," said Boonville First Assistant Fire Chief Dean Yauger. "You know, we're just starting to come back and bring some businesses back into town and revitializing downtown, if you will. So this is going to hurt. It's going to hurt big."

There are no injuries that have been reported.

The Boonville Community assisted both victims and firefighters on Wednesday.

“The Pub did food last night, along with Rookie’s Tavern, they brought in food as well from 2:00 a.m. last night, and it’s still coming in,” said Boonville resident Lenore Woodill.

“The  Boonville Fire Department called us for help, to help them protect their community and reached out to us, and we said ‘absolutely we’re on our way, whatever you need we’ll bring it.” That’s what we do. We help each other and what the community did, helping us to help them, is phenomenal,” said Whitesboro Deputy Fire Chief Dave Glenn.

If you ask someone who lives in Boonville, they’ll tell you the generosity isn’t surprising. It’s who the people here are.

“Anything that ever happens in this town, everybody just joins together and they all work as a team,” Woodill said.

"We've been here since 10:30 p.m. and we've been giving food and drinks to the firefighters, and we've been here ever since,” said resient Kim Many Skerpon.

Boonville Police are asking people not to travel in the area unless absolutely necessary.
