Kirsten Gillibrand didn't travel too far from her Capital Region home after announcing she’s running for president.

She made her first campaign stop in Troy at the Country View Diner.

Gillibrand formally announced she’s launched an exploratory committee Tuesday night on The Late Show.

Gillibrand lives in the Troy area, and graduated high school from Emma Willard. She was born in Albany. She’s represented New York in the House and Senate since 2007.

Tuesday night, she laid out some of her priorities, including health care, saying she’s ready to work across the aisle.

Gillibrand's schedule is already filling up: According to multiple reports, she’s heading to Iowa this weekend.

The field of candidates for the 2020 Democratic nomination includes Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro. Former Vice President Joe Biden, who has the standing endorsement of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is also considering a run, as are California Sen. Kamala Harris and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

“Two things; first I work very well and closely with Senator Gillibrand, but I’m not mixing in the presidential political game right now,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer. “Second, I think it’s great that a lot of people are running, particularly great that a lot of women are running.”
