A poll of New York City Democratic voters conducted by the Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group in the last week found they approve of the job Gov. Andrew Cuomo is doing as governor and back his handling of the pandemic.
The poll comes as Cuomo is facing multiple crises, including a controversy of his administration's oversight and transparency of nursing home fatalities during the pandemic as well as allegations he sexually harassed a former official who is now running for Manhattan borough president.
The survey of 601 registered Democratic voters in New York City was conducted from Feb. 17 to Feb. 21, prior to the harassment allegations detailed by Lindsey Boylan on Wednesday, but also as Cuomo faced increasing scrutiny surrounding the nursing home issue. The poll has a margin of error of 4.1 percentage points.
The poll, obtained by Spectrum News, found 75% of Democrats surveyed backed the job Cuomo is doing as governor, 21% disapprove. Similarly, 72% of Democratic voters approve of the job Cuomo is doing managing the pandemic; 25% do not.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, a rival of the governor's, receives less positive marks: Voters are split on his job approval, 46% to 47%, while 57% approve of his handling of the pandemic.
