For more than an hour, President Donald Trump on Thursday unloaded on his critics, Democrats, Mitt Romney and others a day after he was acquitted of impeachment charges.

But Trump also singled out individual members of Congress who had publicly supported him during the process -- including New York Rep. Elise Stefanik.

“I was up campaigning for her, helping her," Trump said in the remarks at the East Room. "I thought ‘She looks good, she looks like good talent.’ But I did not realize when she opens that mouth, you were killing them Elise.”

He added, "I'll always be your friend. What a great future you have. The first lady agrees."

She wasn't the only lawmaker Trump praised -- he also complimented Rep. Lee Zeldin, a Long Island Republican, as well, as members of congressional leadership.

Stefanik has been a prominent and vocal supporter of the president amid the impeachment process, taking a lead role in questioning witnesses during congressional hearings.

Since then, Stefanik has announced a large fundraising haul in her re-election bid for a fourth term in a sprawling North Country House district.

Trump on Wednesday was acquitted of charges he obstructed Congress and used his power in an effort to pressure Ukraine to investigate Democrats and former Vice President Joe Biden.
