Vice President Mike Pence spoke to men and women in uniform on Sunday that have recently returned from Afghanistan.

"I want you to know the American people are behind you 100%," said Pence.

Hundreds of soldiers came back to upstate New York on Christmas Eve after serving for months in Afghanistan. Some of them in the audience on Sunday. First Lt. LYdia Gavner is one of the soldiers happy to be home.

"Its a great feeling to be back, it was definitely a great experience being over there, but being home and being able to see my family is the best," said Gavner.

"On behalf of the American people, we can never thank you and your families enough, for your service and your sacrifice," said Rep. Elise Stefanik.

"To the men and women of the 10th Mountain Division here at Fort Drum, I assure you, you are the strength and pride of the American people," said Pence.

"Its very awesome to be able to see him speak in person, makes me feel good about what I do," said Joseph Webb, a soldier with the 10th Mountain Division.

The vice president delivered his last public address while in office.

"And as our time in office draws to a close, allow me to thank you for the privilege of serving as your vice president. It's been the greatest honor of my life," said Pence.

The second lady also thanked military families for their sacrifice, gifting them with a blue star family bracelet.
