The Onondaga County Sheriff's Aviation Unit puts their lives on the line each and every day, both on the ground and in the air.

It only takes four minutes for the unit to launch and about seven minutes to reach most locations within the county.

They have three main missions: assisting law enforcement, locating and rescuing victims and helping firefighters.

The unit has multiple tools to help them during their rescues, from spotlights that can brighten a city block to floats that can help them land on water to infrared cameras to help them find inividuals who are lost or trying to flee.

They are the only rescue police-based helicopter in the Central New York region.
