Everyone seemed to make it out safely from a house fire on Syracuse's south side Wednesday morning.

Neighbors of a home on Primrose Avenue say they smelled smoke around 5:30 a.m. By the time firefighters arrived, flames were shooting through the roof of the home.

“When I heard the fire alarm next door I didn't pay no attention because the smoke alarm always goes off,” neighbor Curtis Hawkins says. “But then I started smelling smoke.  So I go to check mine, see if it was our house.  I go to look out the window and I saw the fire next door.”

Neighbors said there were two apartments inside the building, but they don’t think anyone was living on the top floor.
