Some officers with the Rome Police Department took a break from the roads Monday night. They escaped the cold temperatures to play video games with kids!

More than 20 gamers made their way to Lan Mob gaming center in Rome.

This is part of Rome Police Department's community impact unit, to let children know police do more than write tickets.

"We're out there in the community talking with the kids letting them know were all people,” said Joe Hall, Rome police Community Impact Officer. “It kind of humanizes us at that point where they see us as a person rather than a badge.”

Some of the gamers told us they're hoping more events like this will be planned with other first responders.
