Snowmobile season is finally here, with hundreds traveling to the North Country to hit the snow. But unfortunately, there have been three fatal crashes since trails have opened. Those incidents have a lot of riders reconsidering safety while on snowmobiles.

Generally, snowmobile riders believe everyone should follow these simple rules:

  1. Be cautious of other vehicles on the road. "You've always got to keep a look out for the other person, watch, stay to the right, and make sure you're using hand signals and slow down when you see other people approaching," said snowmobiler Carrie Welch.

  2. Follow all traffic signs and obey all traffic laws. Just because it's not a car doesn't mean you can't get into a serious accident.

  3. Drive sober. "A lot of accidents [are] from alcohol. You know what I mean?" said snowmobiler Titus Stephens. "Everyone wants to drink and be Superman on these things. These things are fast, they're really fast."
