A Syracuse church is trying to bring back a tradition of giving and they're asking for help.

The Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church used to serve food to the community, but when they built a new church, there's wasn't enough money to finish the kitchen.

It will take $50,000 to renovate.

Church leaders would like to feed the working poor three hot meals a day along with helping them with basic necessities.

"We've had Nojams close which was just two blocks from our church. We've also had a local TOPS close which is about a mile away from our church, so it is very important that we as a church meet the basic needs of those in our community," said Pastor Cyrus Thornton.

If they do receive enough funding, the project would take about two years to finish.

The church is taking donations from the public.

Donations can be sent to Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church at PO Box 372 Syracuse, NY 13201. Those interested in donating can also contact the church at 315-475-4124.
