A former track and cross country coach is back in jail on child pornography charges. Martin Nicholson had posted $25,000 bail Tuesday on state level charges. But now he's facing federal charges.

New Court documents from the appearance reveal that the investigation into 31-year-old Martin Nicholson began back in April of this year. All because investigators say he shared child pornography on Twitter.

A statement from an FBI agent says after the photo of a prepubescent child was shared, Twitter reported the account information to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Subpoenas were issued, along with a search warrant for Nicholson's South Terry Street home in Syracuse on Tuesday.

According to the documents, Nicholson told agents he didn't recognized the image they found on Twitter, but admitted he'd sent similar images on social media platforms like Twitter, Kik and Wickr, as recently as Monday night. The documents also reference videos shared on Kik, one longer than a minute in length, showing two girls under the age of 12.

Already facing several charges at the state level, Nicholson now faces sexual exploitation of a child and receipt of child pornography at the federal level. Nicholson posted bail for his state-level charges but is now being held without bail for his federal charges.

Nicholson is being held at Cayuga County Jail, according to his attorney. He has court appearances. For his state and federal charges, scheduled for Monday. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison on one federal charge and up to 20 on the other, and could be fined up to $250,000 on each count.
