A Syracuse teen will spend almost the next 20 years in prison.

Lamar Murray, 16, shot 18-year-old Jaquan Moore in the head while Moore was stopped at a traffic light on South Geddes Street. Murray pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month.

After being shot, Moore drove off the side of the road and hit a utility pole. He died shortly after.

Moore's grandmother, Willie Mae Williams, spoke about the sentencing as she left the courtroom. She hopes her grandson's killer becomes a better person while in prison.

"He can teach people 'I did this when I was your age, and what it took out of my life. Now I'm going to encourage these young people lay your guns down' ... because nobody wins with them," Williams said.

Murray will spend 18 years in prison.
