Clear to partly cloudy and very cold tonight with lows from the upper single digits to low teens. Winds will also diminish. Thursday will be partly sunny and cold with highs in the mid to upper 20s.

Light snow is expected Thursday night into Friday morning with a coating to about 2 inches possible. Main roads will be wet for the Friday morning commute with some slippery travel in neighborhoods, side streets and roads less traveled.

Friday afternoon into Saturday morning looks fairly quiet with only a few scattered flurries.

Frigid air and gusty winds arrive for the weekend with a high impact winter storm also likely. Scattered snow showers will develop Saturday giving way to area-wide snow during the afternoon.

The bulk of the heaviest and steadiest snow is expected Saturday night and into Sunday morning with more than a foot of accumulation possible. Roads will snow-covered and slippery. Visibility will also be greatly reduced due to falling and blowing snow. Plan for lots of extra travel time if you’ll be driving during this period.

Lake snow and wind will continue into Sunday afternoon but will gradually diminish in coverage. Frigid air will continue on Monday with a few scattered flurries.

Temps then come up Tuesday and Wednesday as the next large, moisture-rich low may move through the region with wintry precip and tough tavel. We’ll keep you posted with updates as they become available.
