NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- A man charged in connection with a shooting at a Halloween party in Newburgh pleaded not guilty to tampering with physical evidence Tuesday.
Officials say 21-year-old Rainier Hamilton tried to hide a handgun by taking it away from the alleged shooter, Nija Johnson.
Omani Free, 18, and Tabitha Cruz, 20, were shot and killed at the party last October.
Five other people were injured.
Johnson is charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.
Hamilton is scheduled to be sentenced March 7.
