You can add Tanner Cooper and Adam Scott to the list of pro baseball players who returned home after spring training was closed down because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Canandaigua grads are both pitchers and have been working together to stay sharp while they wait to start their seasons.

“Just trying to make the most of it and take this opportunity to work on pitches and all the things I feel weren't necessarily ready for the season yet,” said Cooper.

“We're preparing for a season that has no start date obviously but we're prepared. That's the key word there. We're doing everything we can to make sure that when it's time to go, we're ready to go,” said Scott.

Drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 2018, Scott finished last year as a starter with Class Double-A Akron.

“I'm trying to get better. I'm trying to build on my strengths. Make weaknesses into strengths. Work on your delivery, work on the action of a pitch,” said Scott.

As for Cooper, he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds last June and made his pro debut as a reliever with the Class A Greeneville Reds. Projected as a starter this season,

Cooper never got a chance to pitch in a game this spring.

“I needed to impress some coaches and show what I got, like working the pitch count up and show them multiple pitches and stuff like that so not being able to do that kind of hurts a little bit,” said Cooper.

Both pitchers are intent on helping each other improve.

“It's really, really nice that we both have the same end goal, working on the same foundation points. The different ways we go about doing that is how we feed off each other,” said Scott.

Scott is hoping to start the season with Triple-A Columbus while Cooper hopes to open the year with Class A Dayton Dragons.
