McQuaid is using last season's loss in the final against Victor to help fuel this year's run.

  • McQuaid baseball has jumped out to a great start this year – 14-0
  • The Knights are ranked second in the state

“We all got that sting in our stomach last year and it was an awful feeling and we're ready and eager to get back. Obviously we're ready to play. We've got a real experienced team and we're all buying into coach's philosophy and right now we're just playing great,” said senior pitcher Hunter Walsh.

With 13 seniors on their roster, the Knights have the experience and, more importantly, the skill to play at a high level.

“I think we're a pretty clean team. I think we all hit the ball pretty well and we don't make too many mistakes in the field. I think our pitching is very good as well. One through nine, I'm confident in all our players,” said senior infielder Zach Lee.

"One through nine can all hit, and that really helps because people near the top of the lineup, they don't have to be pressured to put runs on the board. We know that seven through nine can do the same things as one through three can do,” said McQuaid senior catcher Ben Beauchamp.

While an undefeated regular season would be nice, the Knights are thinking long-term.

“Adversity is going to strike us at some point. How are we going to handle that and going back to having a veteran group — we got a group that has experienced the highs and the lows and they're well equipped to handle it and they're well equipped to handle the good and the bad and triumph through both,” said head coach Tony Fuller.

McQuaid hopes their odd year trend continues after the Knights claimed the crown in 2015 and 2017.
