East takes on Irondequoit in a Class A semifinal Friday night at SUNY College at Brockport.

The Eagle squads did not meet during the regular season where Irondequoit was undefeated, while East was handed their only loss by Class AA McQuaid.

Despite impressive regular season campaigns, both teams barely squeaked their way into the semifinal. East trailed Greece Arcadia for three quarters of their matchup until Freddie Brock scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to propel them into the semifinal.

Irondequoit, on the other hand, had a back-and-forth battle with Wilson. They scored late to go ahead, but the Wildcats were able to drive all the way down into a short and goal situation. Irondequoit's Liam Jones came up with the game saving sack on the final play of the game.

Irondequoit's win over reigning Class A champion Wilson ensures that East is the last remaining Rochester City School in the Section V playoffs. Last year the Wildcats became the first RCSD team to win a sectional title since John Marshall won Class AA in 2006.

That championship was a huge step for RCSD programs and East hopes they can keep that momentum going.

For Irondequoit, the win also holds significance, as they were the team Wilson beat in last year's final. Besides that dose of redemption, they also gained some resiliency in their quarterfinal thriller, something the 8-0 team thinks they can benefit from.

"We've learned to fight adversity," said Irondequoit senior Freddy June, Jr. "We know it's going to come at some point and we're just going to have to play and keep rolling. Don't let anything get in the back of our minds. Flush everything down the drain if something bad happens and just keep playing."
