Each week during Friday Night Matchup, Spectrum News will celebrate some of the top student-athletes that Section V has to offer. Sam Testani, a member of Pittsford Mendon High School’s football team is this week’s Scholar Athlete. He represents everything a student-athlete should strive to be.

Head football coach and school counselor Keith Molinich calls Sam a team- first type of player. He says Sam puts in an outstanding effort both on and off the field.

As a member of the varsity team, Molinich says Sam has primarily been a scout team player preparing the starting offense and defense for the week’s opponent. He says Sam brings a passion and work ethic to the game that is matched by few.

“Sam is kind, caring and thoughtful of all his classmates at Pittsford Mendon,” Monolich said. “Truly one of the most outstanding young people that I have ever come across.”

Off the field, Sam carries a 97 GPA in an honors and AP curriculum. He also volunteers as an assistant coach for unified basketball in the spring and youth flag football.

Sam will receive a $1,000 scholarship going to the college of his choice.
