Karen Edwards joins the Spectrum News Rochester team as a self-proclaimed southern girl who is ready to take on the north. A native of Georgia, Karen spent three years working for a newsroom in Louisiana prior to making the move east. Today, Karen finds her daily inspiration through the dedicated and knowledgeable staff that she’s surrounded with.

With the dream of being a journalist since she was 8 years old, Karen feels lucky to get walk into the newsroom each morning with the opportunity to connect with her community. The recipient of several Louisiana Association of Broadcasting awards and a participant of Emmy award winning newscasts, it’s safe to say that Karen made her dream come true. Throughout her time reporting, Karen recalls a series of stories she covered on a financial literacy program catered toward at-risk teen girls as one that sticks out as her most meaningful. Throughout this coverage, Karen was able to witness how the learning’s from the program truly changed the lives of several families for the better.

A proud Rochester resident, Karen notes how the level of participation by members of the community when it comes to local decision making are unlike any other. More so, Karen describes that being surrounded by such diverse and passionate people makes calling Rochester home as easy as it gets.

Outside of the newsroom, Karen keeps busy by catching up with family, taking care of her cat, Monti, learning the Korean language or flipping through Star Wars and Marvel comics, to name a few. Karen is excited to explore all that the Flower City has to offer and plans to spend time soaking in all of the historical stories and meanings there are to learn.
