An investigative committee looking into allegations of sexual harassment against Ontario County Sheriff Kevin Henderson will meet on Thursday. Leaders say there have also been many complaints about the alleged toxic environment in the sheriff's office.
Jack Marren, the chairman of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors, says the committee has subpoena power.
"Again, our intent all along, the members of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors, has been to work on behalf of the men and women of that department and certainly, in our opinion, eliminate what we feel is poor leadership," said Marren.
Marren says he and other officials have been in contact with the governor's office regarding the accusations.
To date, more than 70 current and former members of the sheriff's office have provided statements. Just this week, the union representing the deputies, the Police Benevolent Association (PBA), says it has no confidence in the sheriff's ability to continue leading. It called for Henderson to resign.
Henderson has denied any wrongdoing.
