The Monroe County Sheriff's Office celebrated Sheriff's Week on Wednesday with a wreath laying ceremony.

The statewide initiative is designed to honor deputies who have died in the line of duty, and highlights the service and contributions county sheriff's departments across the state make in law enforcement.

Sheriff Todd Baxter says the ceremony is also a time to think about the other men and women who serve the country.

"Our country is based on giving, our country is based on servant attitudes. You think about the men and women overseas right now in a different color uniform, you think about the firefighters the EMTs, you think about the law enforcement officers no matter what the patch. Our country is founded on servants, and will always will be," he said.
