Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren spoke Friday on the effectiveness of the emergency-ordered curfew put in place to try to curb violence.

She says, so far, the curfew "seems to be promising" when it comes to reducing violence overnight.

The mayor says that since June 1, there were more than 70 shootings, eight of them fatal.

The order restricts overnight gatherings of certain sizes between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., and was extended Monday.

"At the end of the day this is not about control. This is about safety," said Warren. "We want everyone to be able to go home to their families, be able to take care of their children, be able to give their mom and dad or their grandma a kiss at night and to love on each other."
