Closing arguments were presented Thursday afternoon in the trial of Timothy Dean, the man accused of fatally shooting Joshua Niles and fiancée Amber Washburn in Sodus last fall.

Dean's defense attorney Joe Damelio and Wayne County Assistant District Attorney Christine Callanan both agreed Thursday that Dean’s estranged wife, Charlene Childers, is far from innocent.

Earlier this week, Childers detailed her plans with Dean to kill Niles, and told Dean the murders needed to happen when she returned to Texas, after she dropped her kids off to Niles' Sodus home.

“To convict my client, in this case, on these charges, you have to trust and believe a liar, a theft and a cheat,” said Damelio.

“I'm not asking you to believe Charlene Childers, I'm not asking you just to believe Bron Bohlar, I'm asking you to put together what they have said with all the other evidence in this case, ladies and gentlemen, the identification of the defendant on Carlton Street, at 29 Carlton Street, executing Josh Niles and Amber Washburn,” said Callanan.

“A liar, a thief and a cheat times two,” said Damelio, as he spoke to the jury referring to Childers and Bron Bohlar, a police officer in Sunray, Texas who rented a car for Dean.

Both Childers and Bohlar pleaded guilty to their involvement in the murder plot – and both testified against Dean.

The prosecutor, during her argument, pointed at Dean and told the jury that he shot and killed both Niles and Washburn.

Dean's charges include one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree conspiracy.
