A Rochester police officer is facing menacing charges following an alleged road rage incident while he was off duty in the town of Brighton.

According to court paperwork, officer Michael Cantu is accused of pointing a pistol at a woman in Brighton April 6.

The victim claims Cantu was tailgating her vehicle on the expressways, then the two eventually got off at the Monroe Avenue exit.

The victim says Cantu eventually turned down a side street and she followed him to ask what the problem was.

She says when she pulled up next to him, he pointed a gun and yelled at her to get away from his vehicle. Cantu is expected in court June 3.

The Rochester Police Department released a statement saying in part:

"The Rochester Police Department’s Professional Standards Section did initiate an internal investigation at the direction of the Chief. The involved officer has been placed on administrative assignment until further notice.”
