Voters will decide who should fill the vacant House district in Western New York on April 28, Governor Andrew Cuomo declared on Monday.

Cuomo also set April 28 as the special election to fill multiple seats in the state Senate and Assembly.

The date is the same as the state's presidential primary. The move potentially gives Democrats an advantage given the higher turnout expected for the party on that date.

The 27th Congressional District was vacated last year by former Republican Rep. Chris Collins, who pleaded guilty to an insider trading charge and resigned his seat.

In the legislature, elections will be held to fill the seats vacated by Assemblyman Andrew Raia, Assemblywoman Michele Titus and Assemblywoman Jamie Romeo, now the Monroe County clerk.

In the state Senate, voters will determine who should fill the seat vacated by Republican Sen. Robert Antonacci, who assumed a judgeship last year.
