ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A local non-profit advocating for bicycling in Rochester is lending its support to the transportation crisis at the city school district.

Conkey Cuisers paired up with exercise express to distribute a couple hundred bikes at schools across the city.

Bikes, helmets and locks were provided.

It's not just about giving away bicycles, but also the knowledge about how to use them properly.

"We will allow them to understand the process of what a biking lane is,” said Karen Rogers of Exercise Express. “How to understand you need to be safe. You need to be seen on your bike."

"We have an opportunity here in Rochester to set the stage for bicycling back to school in not-so-great climates,” said Theresa Bowick of Conkey Cruisers. “And so we want to set the standard for that and the sustainability of this."

Exercise Express is still accepting donations.
