ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings kicked off the Volunteers of America Strike Out Poverty Campaign on Friday.

Every time a Red Wings pitcher strikes out an opposing hitter this season, fan donations will go to support life service programs that assist vulnerable people in the community. That includes support services for those with mental health concerns and emergency shelters for the homeless.

“All funds raised through our Strike Out Poverty campaign directly supports Volunteers Of America's life-saving services, including our emergency shelter for homeless families, supportive housing for senior and veterans, early childhood educational programs for children and families, residential reentry center for those exiting incarceration, and essential support services for those with mental and behavioral health concerns,” VOA organizers said.

Donations can be made by texting STRIKE to 366283.
